Medical waste cleared, but Ocean City beach remains closed due to rough surf

OCEAN CITY, Md. — The Ocean City Public Works Department has reported that no medical waste was found on the beach following a post-high tide cleanup on Tuesday morning. However, the beach remains closed to swimming and surfing due to rough surf and safety concerns, according to the Ocean City Police Department.

In a social media update, Ocean City Emergency Services Director Joe Theobald stated that the closure is being enforced out of “an abundance of caution” and that limited lifeguard availability has also contributed to the decision.

Water testing in collaboration with the Health Department is planned, with hopes of reopening the ocean before the weekend. Authorities have thanked the public for their understanding as efforts to ensure beach safety continue.
