MIDDLETOWN, NJ – It’s time to celebrate Pride Month across the Middletown School District. Today, the Middletown School District is encouraging all faculty members to celebrate LGBTQ+ pride on June 10th with a show of rainbow colors.
In an email sent out on Thursday, staffers and students were asked to set aside the day to celebrate and support the LGBTQ community.
“As you already know, June is PRIDE MONTH. As we did last year, we set aside a day to celebrate,” the email read. “We would like to encourage all staff and students to come dressed on JUNE 10th in rainbow attire to show their support for the LBGTQ community.”
Teachers and students are advised not to wear LGBTQ hats and flags are also not allowed.
Teachers reminded students and faculty that any body painting must not be applied on school property.
“Face or body paint must be applied and dry before they arrive,” the email said.

Students and teachers were invited to take rainbow ribbon pins available for free at the main office, while supplies lasted.
According to DaysOfTheYear.com, “Pride Month is considered to be an important holiday, one that details the history of the LGBT community finding acceptance in the world. While it’s more widely accepted today than ever before, history is able to tell long stories of why this was not the case for a very long time. Pride Month is a time for each individual to be proud of who they are and the unique offerings they have to bring to the world.”
Students of all ages are invited to participate.
Last week, students in the district celebrated Memorial Day with a live stream of a district memorial service. No requests to wear American flag-themed attire or ribbons was advised by district officials ahead of the ceremony.
