Monroe garage fire destroys structure, damages home as investigators probe cause

Monroe Township, NJ – A garage fire in the Mill Lake section early Friday destroyed the structure and left the attached residence with significant smoke and water damage, authorities said. The occupants evacuated before first responders arrived, and no injuries were reported.

Police said a call came in around 6:20 a.m. reporting a fire in the home’s garage. Monroe Township Fire Department crews encountered active flames on arrival and extinguished the blaze. The garage was destroyed. The remainder of the house sustained smoke and water damage, and a neighboring structure received minor exterior damage from heat.

According to the Monroe Township Police Department, the fire appears accidental at this time, though the official cause remains under investigation by police and the fire department. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Bennett at (732) 521-0222, extension 147.

Officials did not release the identities of the residents. No additional hazards were reported at the scene, and there were no evacuations beyond the affected home.

The investigation is ongoing.
