Germantown grandfather scores $100K Lottery win a decade after previous prize
BALTIMORE, Md. — A Germantown grandfather is celebrating another trip to the winner’s circle after two Maryland Lottery Bonus Match 5 tickets delivered a combined prize of $100,060.
The Montgomery County man claimed the winnings Tuesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, marking his second major prize in about 10 years.
Lottery officials said the longtime player previously won a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prize in late 2016.
The retired insurance adjuster regularly plays games such as Multi-Match and Powerball, often choosing numbers connected to his grandchildren. His selections include his granddaughter’s birthdate and birth weight.
After the birth of his grandson two years ago, he added a third set of numbers and began purchasing two combinations for each drawing.
That decision paid off when one of the duplicated combinations matched the winning numbers, producing two $50,000 prizes. Smaller matches on his other number combinations added an additional $60 to the total prize.
The winner said he discovered the results at home and shared the news quietly with his wife and daughter.
Despite the six-figure win, the Germantown resident said he remained calm while claiming the prize.
He said there are no immediate plans for the money, although he suspects his wife may already be thinking about future travel.
The winning ticket was purchased at Town Center Sunoco, located at 19738 Germantown Road in Germantown. The retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
