Morning crash near Selbyville leaves two dead, one critical

SELBYVILLE, DE — Two people were killed and another critically injured Tuesday morning in a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Lighthouse Road near Selbyville, according to Delaware State Police.

The crash occurred around 7:54 a.m. when a Chevrolet Camaro traveling eastbound on Lighthouse Road crossed the double-yellow center line near New Road and collided with a westbound Hyundai Santa Fe.

The impact caused fatal injuries to both the Camaro’s driver, a 22-year-old woman from Berlin, Maryland, and a 77-year-old passenger in the Santa Fe from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. The Camaro driver was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died. The passenger in the Santa Fe was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Santa Fe’s driver, a 74-year-old man from Selbyville, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries. Names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Lighthouse Road was closed for several hours while troopers investigated the scene and removed debris.
