Murder suspect shot himself as police closed in

North Versailles, PA – When officers from the Allegheny County Police Department moved in on a potential murder suspect, the 40-year-old man, according to police pointed his gun at his own head and pulled the trigger.

The call for police assistance came in on Tuesday at 11:17 pm when a caller to 9-1-1 reported a shooting in the 500 block of Rustic Road.

The suspect survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“First responders found a 37-year-old male victim deceased at the scene. Responding officers from the North Versailles police department encountered the suspect, a 40-year-old male, in the 300 block of Rustic Road fleeing the scene,” police said. “The suspect, upon seeing police, shot himself once in the head. He was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.”
