TRENTON, N.J. — Gov. Phil Murphy drew a comparison between former President Donald Trump’s administration and Nazi Germany, warning against political complacency in the United States.

Murphy, who previously served as U.S. ambassador to Germany, referenced the country’s history while discussing current political tensions. “The Germans in the ’20s and ’30s got tired, they got sick of fighting, and look at the price we paid,” Murphy said. “We cannot roll over, we cannot stop fighting.”

His remarks come as Trump begins his second term, with critics raising concerns over the administration’s policies and rhetoric. Murphy has been an outspoken opponent of Trump, frequently challenging his administration on immigration, gun control, and civil rights issues.

Murphy also noted that Germany is currently facing significant political challenges, though he did not elaborate. “By the way, [Germany] is going through hell right now in a very concerning way,” he said, adding that his son had traveled there for business.

Murphy’s comments add to the growing political tensions between Democratic leaders and the Trump administration as the president’s second term unfolds.
