ATHENS, Ohio – A Nelsonville man was sentenced to four and a half years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty in Athens County Common Pleas Court to burglary and receiving stolen property and aggravated possession of drugs.
Tyler Barber, 36, pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony burglary charge in one case and a bill of information in another case that charged a third-degree felony charge of aggravated possession of drugs and a fifth-degree felony of receiving stolen property.
On the burglary charge, Barber was sentenced by Judge George McCarthy to two and a half years in prison. McCarthy ordered two years on the aggravated possession of drugs charge to run consecutively and ordered the total of four and a half years to run concurrent to a year sentence for the receiving stolen property crime.
In February, Barber entered the residence at 8 N. College St. in Athens and stole from Matthew Slowey. Barber was ordered to pay Slowey $300 in restitution. The following month, Barber did the same at 31 Grosvenor St. In Athens and stole from Madeline Fisher. He was ordered to pay Fisher $50 in restitution. After the second incident, Barber was located and found in possession of methamphetamine and stolen property.
