New Jersey College Student Drowned While Swimming at State Park

OCEAN CITY, NJ – A student at Rowan College, 21-year-old Nathaniel Figueroa was swept away by a rip current on Friday and drowned, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Figueroa was a student at Rowan University.

The incident happened Friday when the Vineland resident was swimming in the water in Corson’s Inlet State Park. Ocean City Beach Patrol members rendered CPR, and he was rushed to Shore Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

He was swimming in an area of the park where the activity is prohibited.
