New Jersey Elected Official Charged for Stealing Money from Democrat Club

FLEMINGTON, NJ — Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson announced that a Hunterdon County Grand Jury has indicted Malik D. Johnston, also known as Pippin J. Folk, a 47-year-old former Flemington Borough Town Council member, on charges of third-degree theft. The indictment relates to an unauthorized withdrawal of $1,000 from the Flemington Democratic Club’s bank account, which occurred on June 2, 2023, at a Bridgewater branch.

Johnston, who previously served as an officer of the club, allegedly took the funds without permission. If convicted, third-degree charges could lead to a prison term of three to five years and fines up to $15,000. Johnston is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
