New Jersey LCV Criticizes Proposed Reforms to Open Public Records Act

TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has expressed strong opposition to recent legislative efforts to reform the state’s Open Public Records Act.

Ed Potosnak, Executive Director of New Jersey LCV, criticized the bill for its potential to weaken transparency and public access to government records. He emphasized the importance of maintaining key elements and protections under the current law, which he argues are crucial for public oversight, community engagement, and the work of non-profits.

Despite the bill’s advancement through committee, Potosnak voiced disappointment over the lack of significant stakeholder engagement in the process. However, he affirmed New Jersey LCV’s commitment to collaborate with bill sponsors to uphold government accountability and ensure continued access to taxpayer-funded public records.
