Prosecutors say the accused gunman remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
BRIDGETON, N.J. — Murder charges have been filed against a Bridgeton man in the fatal shooting of a Newark resident, but authorities say the suspect remains on the run and should be considered armed and dangerous.
The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday that 32-year-old Rynell L. Lawrence, of South Burlington Road in Bridgeton, has been charged in connection with the June 24 killing of 33-year-old Quashawn T. White, of Newark.
According to prosecutors, Bridgeton police officers responded at about 8:08 p.m. to the South Burlington Road Townhouse Complex for a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found White suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He later died from his injuries.
Following an investigation by the Bridgeton Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, authorities charged Lawrence with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and fourth-degree certain persons not to have a weapon.
Prosecutors said the charges were filed on June 26, but Lawrence has not been apprehended. Detectives, assisted by the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit, are actively searching for him.
Authorities warned that Lawrence should be considered armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach him.
