TRENTON, N.J. — The State Board of Medical Examiners has temporarily suspended the license of a Mercer County obstetrician and gynecologist accused of sexually exploiting two longtime patients during medical exams, officials announced Monday.
Dr. Bruce Pierce, who practiced at Delaware Valley OBGYN & Princeton Midwifery in Lawrenceville, allegedly engaged in gross negligence and professional misconduct by inappropriately touching two women during separate visits in 2023. The Board issued the suspension after a November 13 hearing, where it found credible evidence supporting the allegations.
According to the complaint filed by Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin’s office, Pierce’s alleged actions involved dismissing a chaperone during an exam with one patient and later calling another patient to apologize for his behavior. Text messages between Pierce and one victim, who had been under his care for more than 20 years, were presented as evidence of his “consciousness of guilt.”
The Board deemed the allegations “credible, chilling, and compelling,” concluding that Pierce’s continued practice would pose a “clear and imminent danger to public safety.” The suspension will remain in place pending further proceedings with the Office of Administrative Law.
“No patient should ever have to fear being sexually exploited on a physician’s exam table,” said Cari Fais, Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs, in a statement.
Authorities are continuing their investigation as Pierce’s case awaits further action by the Board.
