Glass ceilings be damned: New Jersey’s “Me Too” Senators slam Trump’s female pick for U.S. Attorney.
NEWARK, N.J. — Senators Andy Kim and Cory Booker issued a joint statement this week opposing the nomination of Alina Habba as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, calling her tenure as interim U.S. Attorney politically motivated and unqualified for the post.
“The people of New Jersey deserve a U.S. Attorney that has deep experience with law enforcement, a reputation and an approach that puts partisanship to the side,” the senators wrote. “It’s clear that Alina Habba does not meet the standard to serve the people of New Jersey.”
Habba, a known ally of former President Donald Trump and his legal team, was named interim U.S. Attorney earlier this year and has since drawn criticism from Democratic officials who accuse her of pursuing politically driven investigations.
“In her short tenure… she has degraded the office and pursued frivolous and politically motivated prosecutions,” the statement reads.
The White House has not yet announced whether it will move forward with a formal nomination. The position requires Senate confirmation.

Habba’s appointment has become a flashpoint in the broader debate over the future of the Justice Department under a possible second Trump administration.
