New Jersey Weather and Beach Report: Rain and Rip Currents Today

Expect scattered showers mainly before noon today at the Jersey Shore, eventually giving way to mostly sunny skies with a high near 82 degrees. Winds will come from the west at 5 to 10 mph, and there’s a 40% chance of precipitation. Rainfall amounts could range from a tenth to a quarter of an inch.

Tonight, the sky will be mostly cloudy and the temperature will drop to around 66 degrees. Conditions will be breezy, with a north wind blowing at 10 to 20 mph.

For Thursday, anticipate partly sunny weather with a high near 74 degrees. It will continue to be breezy, with a northeast wind at 15 to 20 mph.

Beachgoers should note that a high rip current warning is in effect until Thursday. The risk involves dangerous rip currents and up to half a foot of inundation in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. If you plan on swimming, make sure to do so near a lifeguard. If you get caught in a rip current, try to remain calm and float; don’t swim against the current. Swim parallel to the shoreline if you can. If you can’t break free from the current, face the shore and signal for help.
