New Jersey woman arrested after dog found injured in trash bag at apartment complex

LINDENWOLD, N.J. — A 38-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty after a severely injured and malnourished dog was found inside a trash bag at a local apartment complex, according to a media release from the Lindenwold Police Department.

The incident occurred in March when officers responded to a report of animal abuse at the Belmont Apartments, located at 2009 White Horse Pike. Upon arrival, police found a small white dog inside a dumpster trash bag. The dog was alive but suffering from multiple serious injuries and malnutrition.

Following a two-month investigation, authorities arrested Turquoise Morton of Lindenwold on May 20. She has been charged with abandoning a domestic animal and cruelty to animals, including torture and torment.

Morton has been remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance.

Investigation aided by public

The arrest follows what police describe as a thorough investigation supported by information from the community. The case was handled by Patrolman Devon Augello and Detective Joseph Tomasetti.

The Lindenwold Police Department emphasized the seriousness of the charges and praised the efforts of officers and the public in bringing the case to a resolution.
