New Rochelle, NY – A 35-year-old man is facing felony charges after police recovered a loaded handgun hidden inside a couch following a shots fired incident on Webster Avenue last week.
At approximately 8:55 p.m. on September 24, New Rochelle police units responded to multiple reports of gunfire near Webster Avenue and Remington Place. Witnesses described the suspect as a Black male with short hair and a beard, possibly dressed in gray, and saw him run into 160 Remington Place after the shooting.
Officers secured an apartment inside the building while additional units set up a perimeter. Detectives later recovered one 9mm shell casing at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Kenneth Hairston, exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident. A subsequent search revealed multiple 9mm rounds in a closet and a loaded SCCY 9mm handgun concealed in a couch.
Hairston has been charged under New York State law with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a C felony, and reckless endangerment in the first degree, a D felony.
The New Rochelle Police Department credited witnesses and residents for their cooperation in helping secure the arrest.
