BRONX, NY — Police are searching for a man who punched a 57-year-old MTA bus driver in the face before fleeing the scene in an unprovoked attack in the Bronx earlier this week, the NYPD said Wednesday.

Authorities say the incident took place on board a BX31 MTA bus operating near Van Cortlandt Park when an unidentified male boarded and approached the on-duty driver without provocation. The suspect punched the victim in the face and quickly fled the bus to an unknown location.

The driver sustained facial pain and swelling and was transported by EMS to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was treated and listed in stable condition.

Police release image, seek public’s help

Surveillance images of the suspect have been made available through the NYPD’s public information portal. Investigators from the 47th Precinct are urging anyone with information to come forward.

As of Wednesday, no arrests had been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
