New York City cop arrested after threatening teen nephew over money

New York, NY- A female New York City police officer was arrested in Queens on Thursday after she allegedly put a knife to her nephew’s throat and demanded money from the boy.

New York City Police Department identified Naznin Akter, 29, as an off-duty officer at the time of the incident.

Police say Akter was visiting her sister’s home in Queens when an argument broke out over money. The off-duty cop began demanding money and allegedly grabbed her nephew, putting a knife to his throat.

According to police, she then told her sister, “Give me the money or I’ll hurt him.”

She was arrested and charged with assault, criminal mischief and menacing towards a child under the age of 17.

Police said the boy was not injured. She has been a police officer since January 2018.
