New York State Family Services Worker Admits to Sexual Assault of Young Patient

SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. – Ovzie Cannon, a 40-year-old man from Queens, has pleaded guilty to third-degree rape after admitting to sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl.

The incident took place while Cannon was employed as a Youth Support Specialist at the Brentwood Residential Center for Girls, a New York State Office of Children and Family Services facility.

Court documents reveal that between January and February, Cannon gave the victim edibles containing cannabinoids and then engaged in sexual intercourse with her. His duties included monitoring the victim’s room.

On Friday, Cannon pleaded guilty to charges of Rape in the Third Degree, Criminal Sexual Act in the Third Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child before County Court Judge Karen M. Wilutis.

He is represented by Michael Schillinger, Esq., and awaits sentencing on January 17, 2024.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office emphasized its commitment to prosecuting those who exploit children. The Brentwood Residential Center serves female youth adjudicated as juvenile delinquents.
