Newark Cops Search for Car Burglary Suspect

NEWARK, N.J. — Newark police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man seen on video stealing luggage from a parked vehicle Saturday evening.

The incident occurred around 6:09 p.m. on Garibaldi Avenue near McClellan Street, according to Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. The suspect was caught on surveillance footage lifting tape from a damaged rear passenger window before reaching into the car and removing luggage from the back seat.

Authorities said the man fled the scene heading northbound on Garibaldi Avenue. The footage capturing the theft has not been publicly released, but police confirmed that the suspect was alone at the time of the incident.

No injuries were reported, and police did not specify the contents or value of the stolen luggage.

“Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., requests the public’s help in identifying the male suspect,” the department said in a statement.
