Newark film production to close downtown streets Tuesday with overnight impacts

Intermittent closures across key corridors expected from noon through early Wednesday.

Newark, NJ – Drivers in downtown Newark should prepare for delays Tuesday as a film production prompts a series of intermittent street closures stretching into the early morning hours, city officials announced.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. said closures will begin at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, and continue in phases through 4 a.m. Wednesday, affecting several major streets in the city’s central business district.

From noon to 6 p.m., closures will impact Lafayette Street between Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard and Mulberry Street, as well as Mulberry Street between Lafayette Street and Raymond Boulevard.

Evening closures expand across downtown

Beginning at 6 p.m., the closure area will expand significantly. Affected roadways will include Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard between Lafayette Street and Raymond Boulevard, Park Place between Raymond Boulevard and East Park Street, and continued closures along Mulberry Street and Lafayette Street.

“Due to a film production, the following streets will experience intermittent street closures on Tuesday, April 7, 2026,” the Newark Department of Public Safety said in its advisory.

Officials said the staggered schedule is intended to accommodate filming while allowing periodic traffic flow where possible.

Drivers urged to plan ahead

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and allow extra travel time throughout the day and overnight.

“Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and plan alternate routes,” the department stated.

Miranda also encouraged residents to report any criminal activity through the city’s tip line, noting that anonymous tips are accepted and may be eligible for rewards.
