Newark Firefighters Use Juneteenth Celebration to Connect With City Children

NEWARK, NJ – The City of Newark celebrated Juneteenth on Friday, but for firefighters, it was an opportunity to connect with families and children in the community.

Newark Firefighters L. Byrd, T. Jones, E. Irizarry, and Newark Police Office F. Ellison participated in the celebration of Juneteenth at Kipp Academy School.

The Newark Fire Department said Engine 29 assisted in the event by teaching the children how to use the fire hose. Firefighters also provided snacks, toys, and fire safety brochures.

The children at the Kipp Academy had a great time checking out the fire trucks, the city’s firefighting equipment and meeting the neighborhood heroes who will rush to their aid in case of emergency.
