NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety is issuing a traffic advisory in anticipation of snowfall expected to start on Tuesday, January 13, 2024, at 7 a.m., with potential accumulations of up to 7 inches.
Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is urging drivers to adhere to “No Parking on Snow Covered Roadways” signs to facilitate snow removal and emergency access. Residents are also reminded that it is illegal to shovel snow into the street. The advisory emphasizes the importance of keeping roadways clear for Police, Fire, and Office of Emergency Management Personnel who are coordinating responses to burglar alarms, potential flooding conditions, and other weather-related incidents.
In preparation for the storm, the public is advised to secure outdoor furniture, awnings, refuse, and building materials to prevent them from becoming hazards. For safety during potential power outages, the use of flashlights is recommended over candles to reduce the risk of fire.
