Newark Man Arrested for Filing False Carjacking Report

NEWARK, DE – An investigation by the Newark Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has led to the arrest of a man for falsely reporting a carjacking incident on Library Avenue.

On September 13, Malik Harper, 28, of Newark, surrendered himself to local authorities. He faces a single count of Falsely Reporting an Incident. Harper made his initial court appearance via video before Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was released on $1,000 unsecured bail.

The incident, originally reported as a carjacking, was determined not to have occurred, according to investigators.
