Newark Police Arrest Suspect in Attempted Vehicle Burglaries

NEWARK, DE – Newark Police apprehended 35-year-old James Butler of Newark on December 7, for attempting to burglarize multiple vehicles in a private parking lot on Compass Way.

The arrest followed a report from a witness who provided a description of the suspect.

Butler, who was found walking through the parking lot, matched the description and was taken into custody.

Video evidence confirmed his attempts to enter five vehicles in the lot. He faces five counts of attempted burglary third degree and one count of criminal trespass third degree.

Butler was processed at Newark Police headquarters and later appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2, where he was released on his own recognizance. Newark Police encourage anyone with additional information about this incident to come forward.
