Newark Police Issue Warrant for Suspect in Aggravated Assault Shooting

NEWARK, NJ — Newark’s Public Safety Director, Fritz G. Fragé, announced that authorities are actively seeking Larry Pressley, 33, of Newark, following his alleged involvement in a shooting incident.

The event, occurring on the evening of February 8, 2024, prompted police action after reports of gunfire at Mapes Avenue near Hunterdon Street. Investigators found evidence of multiple shots fired, including spent shell casings and damage to property, though no injuries have been reported.

Pressley has been identified as a key suspect in the case, leading to a warrant for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, conspiracy, and restrictions on weapon possession for certain individuals. Additionally, Pressley faces charges for unlawful weapon possession from a separate incident following a search warrant executed on February 25, 2024. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
