NEWARK, N.J. — The Newark Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect connected to multiple auto burglaries that occurred early Wednesday morning.

According to Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the suspect was captured on surveillance video between midnight and 2 a.m. on July 2 breaking into several vehicles in the 400 block of Market Street. One victim had parked his car around 8 p.m. on July 1 and returned the next morning to find the front passenger window shattered and his wallet missing from the glove compartment.

Investigators say the suspect was seen exiting a Honda Accord before smashing windows and stealing items from multiple cars.

The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS. Tips can be made anonymously and may be eligible for a reward.

The investigation is ongoing.
