Newark police seek help locating man wanted for questioning in shooting investigation

NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in locating El Amin Muhammad, 40, of Newark, who is wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting that occurred on November 21, 2024, on Chancellor Avenue.

At approximately 10:01 p.m. that night, the city’s shot spotter detection system alerted police to gunfire in the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue. Responding officers discovered seven shell casings at the scene. No additional details about the incident or potential victims have been released.

Muhammad is described as a Black male, 5’11” tall, weighing 190 pounds, with a bald head.

Newark Public Safety Director Emmanuel Miranda, Sr. urges anyone with information about Muhammad’s whereabouts to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips are confidential and may lead to a reward.
