Newark Police Seek Public’s Assistance in Identifying Robbery Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé has appealed to the public for help in identifying a suspect connected to a business robbery that occurred on Saturday, March 9, 2024.

Around 12:30 p.m., the suspect, initially a customer at a laundromat in the 100 block of Avon Avenue, reported to workers that his clothing had been stolen from a dryer. Subsequently, he demanded compensation for the alleged theft. When his request was denied, the suspect proceeded to the shop’s counter, where he seized the cash register containing $400.00. He then fled the scene in a light-colored Jeep Cherokee.

Detectives investigating the incident are urging the community’s assistance in promptly identifying the suspect. Described as a Black male, approximately 5’4″ tall and weighing about 150 pounds, he was wearing a black sweater, black pants, and white and green sneakers at the time of the robbery.
