Newark Police Seek Suspect in Armed Restaurant Robbery

NEWARK, NJ – Today, at approximately 1:29 PM, an armed individual robbed the Sarku restaurant at 210 Springfield Avenue in the ShopRite Shopping Facility. Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé issued a public appeal for assistance in identifying the suspect involved in this incident.

The suspect, brandishing a handgun, demanded cash from a restaurant employee. Approximately $700.00 was taken before the suspect fled on foot towards Court Street, passing through the Betty Shabazz Housing Complex.

Investigators describe the suspect as an African-American male in his early twenties, approximately 5’11” to 6’0” in height, weighing around 150 pounds, with a dark complexion. His attire included a red and black winter coat, dark-colored hat, a black ski mask, black pants, and shoes. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
