Newark police seek suspect wanted for marble madness

NEWARK, N.J. — Newark police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man accused of shattering windows with marbles during two early-morning incidents this week.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., the unidentified suspect was caught on surveillance video on April 14 and April 15 damaging windows at two separate downtown locations using a slingshot-like device.

Around 7 a.m. Monday, the man was seen using an unknown object to fire marbles at the Newark Department of Health & Welfare on the 100 block of William Street, cracking multiple windows. At the time, he was wearing an orange jacket, black ski mask, blue pants, and white sneakers, officials said.

Just over 24 hours later, at approximately 3:12 a.m. Tuesday, surveillance footage shows the same suspect using a slingshot to launch another marble, this time breaking a glass window at the Gateway One building on Raymond Boulevard. In that incident, he was dressed in dark clothing but still wore the same white sneakers.

The suspect is described as approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and authorities believe he is connected to both acts of criminal mischief.
