Newark police seek two suspects after early-morning Adams Street robbery

NEWARK, NJ – Newark police are asking for the public’s help identifying two men wanted in connection with a violent robbery that occurred early Friday morning on Adams Street.

Investigators said the attack happened around 5:30 a.m. on the 100 block of Adams Street.

Three suspects approached a man from behind and demanded cash before striking him with a handgun when he said he had none.

Victim assaulted and robbed on Adams Street

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., the victim was able to reach the city’s 3rd Precinct to report the incident after the assault. Police later learned from a witness that the same suspects had tried to rob another individual nearby.

During the investigation, detectives identified and arrested Mahrie Motley, 24, of Newark, as one of the assailants. Motley is facing multiple charges including robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Detectives continue search for remaining suspects

Authorities have released photos of the two other suspects and are urging the public to help identify them. The pair fled the area heading southbound on Adams Street after the assault.

Police said all tips to the Crime Stopper line remain anonymous and could lead to a cash reward.

Residents can also submit tips through the Newark Police Division’s official website as detectives continue to track down the remaining suspects involved in the attack.
