Newark Police Seeking to Identify Porch Pirate

NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a woman suspected of stealing a package from a residence on Brookdale Avenue near Abinger Place earlier this month.

The theft occurred on Wednesday, November 6, at approximately 10:41 a.m., just minutes after the package had been delivered to the home at 10:38 a.m. Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said the suspect was captured on the homeowner’s security camera walking onto the porch and taking the package.

Detectives describe the suspect as a Black female with a thin build. She was wearing a black T-shirt and light blue jeans at the time of the incident. The Newark Police Division released an image of the suspect in hopes that someone might recognize her.

Director Miranda urged anyone with information about the suspect to contact the department’s Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.

The investigation into the theft is ongoing as police work to identify and locate the suspect.
