Newark teen charged after fleeing police, crashing stolen vehicle in Warren Township

WARREN TOWNSHIP, NJ – Police have filed charges against a 15-year-old male from Newark after he led police on a dangerous pursuit last week.

On April 12, a 15-year-old male from Newark, was taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle.

Warren Township Police Officers identified the stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed, eventually crashing on Interstate 78. Three individuals fled on foot, with one 15-year-old male apprehended after a foot pursuit.

An extensive search for the other two suspects involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit.

The search yielded negative results, and the suspects are believed to have left the area in another stolen vehicle. The juvenile now faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Weapon/Devices, and Unlawful Taking of Means of Conveyance.

He is currently held at the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center, pending a Family Court appearance.
