Newburgh Man Receives 8-Year Prison Sentence for Gun Possession

NEWBURGH, NY – On Monday, Raul Paz, a 34-year-old resident of Newburgh, was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. This sentence comes after Paz’s guilty plea to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree in Orange County Court.

According to court documents and statements, the incident occurred on May 14, 2023. Paz fired a gun at a man entering his own home in Newburgh, narrowly missing him. This act was recorded by surveillance cameras.

Upon his arrest, Paz recognized himself in the surveillance footage and confessed to the shooting during the plea proceedings. He admitted to the illegal possession of a loaded firearm.
