COVINGTON, Ky.—Antonio Fox, 37, of Newport, Kentucky, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison on Friday after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.
Fox was stopped by law enforcement on May 23, 2024, during a traffic stop, where officers discovered a loaded firearm and an additional loaded magazine in his vehicle. He admitted to possessing the weapon despite being prohibited from doing so due to prior felony convictions.
Fox’s criminal history includes two convictions for unlawful firearm possession in 2019 and a conviction for possession with intent to distribute marijuana in 2010. Federal law bars felons from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Under federal sentencing guidelines, Fox must serve at least 85% of his sentence. Following his release, he will remain under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for three years.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Covington Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Drew Spievack prosecuted the case.
The sentence highlights federal efforts to prevent repeat offenders from illegally obtaining firearms.
