Newport News Police issue urgent call for blanket donations for shelter animals

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Newport News Police Department is asking the community for donations of blankets to help pets at the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter (PRAS).

The shelter is experiencing a shortage as the number of animals in need continues to grow. Officials are requesting new or gently used blankets — excluding electric or weighted types — to provide warmth and comfort for dogs and cats awaiting adoption.

Donations can be dropped off at 5843 Jefferson Avenue. The ReUnite Lobby is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Adoption Lobby is open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. (closed on Tuesdays). Staff are available to assist with bringing items inside.

The department says all donations directly benefit shelter pets and encourages the public to share the request.
