Newport News Shooting Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – A shooting incident in Newport News, on 74th Street and Roanoke Avenue has resulted in one fatality and two injuries.

The Newport News Police Department responded to the scene around 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21.

The shooting, described as intense and brief, involved approximately ten shots over nine seconds. A nearby resident, Rick Ashworth, reported hearing the gunfire and witnessing the aftermath.

Upon arrival, police discovered a man deceased at the scene. Attempts at CPR by Ashworth and later by the police were unsuccessful. In addition to the fatality, two other gunshot victims were located: one near a van at the hospital and another down Roanoke Avenue, both with non-fatal injuries.

The Newport News Police Department is currently investigating the shooting and has collected evidence, including shell casings. They ask anyone with information to contact them.
