NJ Coastal Rail Line Shut Down After Person Struck by Train

ABERDEEN, NJ – An adult male pedestrian was fatally injured early in the morning when struck by North Jersey Coast Line train 3320. The collision occurred just past Aberdeen-Matawan station near Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen at approximately 7:03 a.m.

The train, which had departed from Bay Head at 5:55 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station New York by 8:00 a.m., was carrying around 350 customers and crew at the time of the incident.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among those on board.

Following the incident, North Jersey Coast Line rail service was suspended between Long Branch and South Amboy in both directions.

NJ TRANSIT is currently cross-honoring rail tickets and passes with NJ TRANSIT bus and private carriers as investigations into the incident continue. Authorities have yet to release the identity of the deceased or details surrounding the circumstances of the collision.
