Suspect in Laurel Shooting Arrested by Police

LAUREL, MD – Late Monday night at approximately 11:40 p.m., police officers responded to a non-contact shooting on the 100 block of Easton South.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and described seeing a white male, clad in a tan shirt and camo pants, brandishing a rifle.

The suspect fled in a blue Toyota Corolla before officers arrived, leaving behind three .223 caliber shell casings and a shattered glass door to an apartment.

Steven David Appleby, a 34-year-old from Ellicott City, Maryland, was identified as the suspect and was apprehended by officers when he returned to the shooting location around 11:45 p.m.

Inside the suspect’s vehicle, officers found a rifle and shotgun. Appleby is currently under arrest and has been charged in connection to the incident.
