North Carolina Teacher brings weapon to Macon County school, prompting investigation

MACON COUNTY, N.C. — A teacher in Macon County is under investigation after a weapon was discovered inside a school on Thursday, according to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded when another individual found the weapon inside an unattended purse on school property. Authorities said the teacher, whose name has not been released, was not present when the discovery was made.

In a statement, Sheriff Brent Holbrooks emphasized the seriousness of the incident, reminding the public that weapons are prohibited on school grounds except for law enforcement personnel. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priorities,” he said, adding that the school system and law enforcement are working together to address the situation.

The sheriff’s office acknowledged that the teacher is a respected member of the community but stressed the importance of adhering to laws designed to maintain a safe learning environment.

Officials have not provided details about the type of weapon involved or any potential disciplinary actions. The investigation is ongoing.
