NYC cop arrested for DWI in East Harlem

NEW YORK — An off-duty New York City police officer was arrested early Thursday morning in East Harlem, authorities said.

Eli Garcia, a 50-year-old NYPD officer, was taken into custody at approximately 1:51 a.m. on October 17, 2024, in the 25th Precinct. He faces charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving while ability impaired (DWAI), and refusing to take a breath test.

The NYPD did not provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
