NYC Man Injured in 2001 Shooting Dies from Injuries, Homicide Investigation Opened

NEW YORK, NY – A 63-year-old man, Jeffrey Atkins of 86th Street, has died following a shooting incident that occurred in 2001.

Police responded to the scene at 183 East 98 Street on March 13, 2001, at about 11:50 PM after receiving a 911 call reporting a male shot. Upon arrival, officers found Atkins with a gunshot wound to the back. He was initially transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.

Atkins succumbed to his injuries on April 5, with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner officially ruling the case a homicide.
