$1 million Powerball ticket sold at Manhattan grocery store

MANHATTAN, NY – A Powerball player who bought a ticket on the Upper East Side is holding a winning slip worth $1 million from Monday night’s drawing, New York Lottery officials announced.

The second-prize-winning ticket was sold at East Side Grocery, located at 1422 Second Avenue. The winner matched five numbers in the September 29 Powerball drawing, missing only the red Power Ball number.

Powerball drawings are held three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., with millions of players across the country taking part. The game’s main draw involves numbers from one to 69, plus the Power Ball, drawn from one to 26.

The New York Lottery, which oversees the state’s games of chance, said it contributed $3.6 billion in the past fiscal year to support public schools across the state.

Lottery officials have not identified the winner, who has one year from the date of the drawing to claim the prize.
