NYPD Investigating Hate Motivated Attack on Muslim Man Inside Subway Station

NEW YORK, NY — The NYPD is calling for public assistance to identify a suspect involved in a hate crime assault that occurred in Midtown Manhattan.

The incident took place on Monday at around 8:48 PM in front of 666 5th Avenue. A 25-year-old male, while on his cellphone, was approached and punched in the face by an assailant who also made anti-Muslim remarks. The attacker then fled the scene.

Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to NYU Langone Medical Center in stable condition. The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force has taken charge of the investigation.

The suspect is described as a male with a light complexion, between 5’7″ and 5’8″ tall, weighing about 160 pounds, and believed to be around 25 years old. He was last seen wearing a gray hat, black t-shirt, tan shorts, black sneakers, and a beard. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
