Ocean City police confirm fireworks caused Boardwalk disturbance, no shots fired

OCEAN CITY, Md. — Ocean City police responded to a disturbance on the Boardwalk Friday evening after fireworks were discharged into a crowd, prompting false reports of gunfire.

The incident occurred downtown and led to the arrest of at least one individual involved. Several witnesses initially reported hearing what they believed were gunshots.

“Some witnesses reported ‘shots fired,’ but we can confirm that there were NO firearm-related injuries involved,” the department stated in a social media post.

Police confirmed that the loud noises were caused by fireworks, not gunfire, and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The department thanked the public for its vigilance and encouraged continued community awareness.

Authorities have not released further details about the individuals involved or potential charges.
