Brooklyn, NY – An off-duty New York City Police Department detective was arrested early Sunday morning in the 90th Precinct, facing charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI).
Michael Laborde, a 40-year-old male NYPD detective, was taken into custody at 7:07 a.m. following the charges.
The NYPD has yet to release further details regarding the circumstances leading to Laborde’s arrest.
According to NYPD records, Detective Laborde was hired in 2013 and earns $150,000 per year.
Laborde has a long record of being accused of using excessive physical force and abuse of authority.
According to records from a $60,000 settlement against the NYPD, On June 2, 2020, plaintiff was lawfully and peacefully attending a protest of police misconduct in the wake of the killing of George Floyd. An unidentified uniformed police officer shoved a protestor without provocation, causing a stampede of protestors and NYPD members in riot gear in plaintiff’s direction. Plaintiff ran to try to escape the oncoming rush but stopped to help a person that had fallen on the ground. As plaintiff was helping this person, plaintiff encountered P.O. Michael Laborde in riot gear so plaintiff extended his arms over his head with his hands open in a “hands up” gesture. P.O. Laborde nevertheless proceeded to violently throw plaintiff to the ground and began punching, kicking and him.
