Off-duty NYPD detective arrested in Brooklyn on assault and harassment charges

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — An off-duty NYPD detective was arrested Wednesday morning in the 72nd Precinct and charged with assault and harassment, police said.

Michael L. Caccavale, 37, was taken into custody at approximately 7:15 a.m. No details regarding the incident leading to the arrest were immediately released.

Caccavale is currently assigned to the NYPD and holds the rank of detective. He was not on duty at the time of the alleged offense.

Investigation pending following officer’s arrest

The charges include one count of assault and one count of harassment. The NYPD has not stated whether the officer has been suspended or placed on modified duty.

Internal disciplinary proceedings may follow depending on the outcome of the investigation.
