Officer-Involved Shooting in North Amityville: Suspect Hospitalized

AMITYVILLE, NY – A man identified as Jayvon Bell, 21, was shot and injured by police while attempting to flee in North Amityville. According to Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison, the incident occurred on Wednesday around 11:45 a.m.

Bell, who was wanted for a previous taxi robbery and a missing firearm, fired at least one round at an officer who returned fire, striking Bell.

He was subsequently arrested and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The officers were treated for tinnitus at a local hospital.
